Golden Jubilee Year Report

Family Welfare Training and Research Centre (FWTR&C) one of the earliest central training Institute (CTI) established by Government of India in June 1957 completed its 50th year. Throughout the golden jubilee year variety of activities were conducted on key health issues including seminars workshops and trainings on NRHM, Immunization, Public health aspects on lung health, Shortage of paramedics, Symposium on Reproductive Health and Violence against Women, Gender mainstreaming and Reproductive Health etc.>/p>

The Golden Jubilee Year celebrations concluded by the institute organizing a Three day National conference on ‘Public Health Challenges in Resurgent India- the NRHM Response’ from 4th to 6th May 2007 at Arogya Bhavan, St. George Hospital Campus Mumbai.

The theme of the conference was Public Health Challenges of resurgent India- the NRHM Response. The various sub themes included:

  • A five day pre-conference Training Workshop under NRHM for IEC/ BCC Officers
  • A two day workshop on 'Initiative to Strengthen the Paramedics under NRHM'- Strategies and Future Directions
  • A seminar on IMNCI - Challenges of Childhood Mortality & Morbidity in India-The IMNCI Response
  • One day Workshop on PCPNDT act -Prevention in Pre Conception and Pre Natal diagnostic Techniques
  • One day seminar on NRHM.
  • The conference aimed to offer a platform to various academicians, researchers, program managers and the Institute’s alumni from different parts of the country to debate and inter-act on the key issues and challenges related to the theme and to formulate effective interventions.

    The conference was inaugurated by honourable minister for state for health Smt Pananbaka Laxmi on 4th may 2007 and the valedictory for the three day conference was done by Dr R.K. Shrivastava Director General for Health Services Govt of India on 5th May 2007.

    The dignitaries who attended the conference included-- Dr. S. R. Satpathy, Director Central Health education Bureau, New Delhi, Dr. Chander P. Puri, Director, National Institute of Research in Reproduction (ICMR) Mumbai, Dr. B.D. Athani, Director All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, . Dr. Doke Director General for Health Services Govt of Maharashtra Dr.Yeolekar Dean LTMedical college and Sion Hospital Mrs. Vandana Krishna, Secretary & Commissioner (FW) Government of Maharashtra, Dr. C.S. Pandava, Prof. and Head of Dptt.Of Community Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi, Mr. R. S. Meena Kalky, Editor(Hindi),ministry of Health & FW, New Delhi etc.

    The Participants comprised of distinguished guests from medical and nursing and other paramedical fraternity from various medical colleges and public health related organizations. The alumini from the institute working in the field of health promotion and education, faculty members of the centre.

    The conference was well attended and was a huge success. The institute was well appreciated for its pioneering efforts in organizing an event of such magnitude and participants showed great keenness for a similar event on regular basis in the future. The choice of the theme of the conference was well liked and found relevant to the current scenario and the participants greatly benefited from the topics covered.
