The Department aims to practice epidemiology as a broad scientific discipline by integrating causal concepts at operational and social-environmental levels and provide enabling and supportive environment to faculty and students to better understand the burden of disease and help in achieving the goals of “Health for all” through Universal health coverage. The research studies are conducted by faculty as multi-disciplinary teams.
The department is also involved in teaching of epidemiology to its students enrolled for regular courses. It helps them to understand, generate and interpret epidemiologic information, to synthesize it with other information, and to apply it in understanding of disease patterns.
The department is in its nascent stage and involved in carrying out Public Health research activities. It conducted baseline health survey in Khandha Colony in Panvel, the field practice area of NIPHTR. It is presently involved in evaluation of services under National Health programmes in Ajiwali PHC, the Rural Health Training Centre of NIPHTR. It recently evaluated the health services provided under RMNCH+A by Ajiwali PHC.
