As a part of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of NIPHTR, two days National Conference on “Developing Quality Essential Health Care Services: Opportunities and Challenges to achieve SDGs” was organized on 5th & 6th May 2017. The conference was organized at Grant Medical College Gymkhana, Marine Drive, Mumbai.
The conference was inaugurated by Shri J.P. Naddaji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and FW, Government of India in the presence of eminent dignitaries. Guests of Honour, Dr. Deepak Sawant, State Minister of Public Health & Family Welfare and Dr. Henk Bekedam, WHO Representative to India (WRI), Special Invitees Shri. A.K.Jha, Economic Advisor, Govt.of India; Dr. T.P Lahane, Dean, Grant Medical College & J.J.Hospital, Mumbai and Mrs. Shobha Madhale, Postmaster General, Navi Mumbai were present during the occasion.
More than 40 eminent speakers from MoHFW, WHO, UNICEF, Medical Colleges & Institutions and NGO delivered talk during the conference. 18 Scientific paper presentations and 12 poster presentations were made. Around 400 delegates including students, imminent faculty & scholars from medical colleges, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, teaching institutions & NGO’s attended the conference.
During his Key note address, Shri. J.P.Nadda Ji first congratulated NIPHTR faculty & staff for achieving the glorious history. He highlighted the great work done by the country for control diseases and preventing death. However, lot has to be done yet in the health sector and it’s time for self-introspection and do need gap analysis. He urged everyone to work hard in their respective places of work for self-satisfaction and be a good provider of health services. He also announced that, Govt. of India has allotted Rs. 20.00 crores to NIPHTR for the new institutional campus at New Panvel and wished it to be complete within 2 years.
