Dear Readers,

Dr. Sunil Vilasrao Gitte
Dr. Sunil Vilasrao Gitte, MBBS, MD (PSM), DHA, Director NIPHTR

FWTRC had the privilege of being the first family planning and training center established way back in the year 1957 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India.

Over the years, the center has evolved into a leading center contributing to better delivery of health care services in the country by undertaking quality training, research, and educational activities.

During the year 2019, the Center was upgraded as National Institute of Public Health Training and Research (NIPHTR), thus expanding its horizons into various newer courses and other activities. The Institute has expanded its scope in Public Health Training by starting a new campus at New Panvel, Navi Mumbai with better infrastructure and facilities.

For the last 3 to 4 years the institute has started many activities with new training courses (MPH and PGDHM), participated in the conducting seminar, CME, observance of National and international health days, and opening of Yellow fever vaccination centers for passengers traveling to endemic countries. Skill Development is the process of identification of the skills gaps and providing skilling training & employment benefits to them. Skill development programmes like Sanitary Health Inspector, Diabetes Educator, Home health aid, General duty assistance, and First Responder have also been started at the institute.

The achievements and contributions of the Institute have been commensurate with the prime status attached to the Institute by its founders. The list of regular courses offered by the Institute indicates that the Institute has been following a holistic approach to the issue of Public Health. A number of Short Courses, Training Programmes for different categories of Health Forces are regularly conducted in coordination with the States /UTs.

I am confident that NIPHTR will achieve greater glory in the days to come with the efforts of the competent workforce and bright students in the field of public health.

With Regards,
Dr. Sunil Vilasrao Gitte, MBBS, MD (PSM), DHA
