A Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in prediabetes, diabetes prevention, and management. CDE are an integral part of the diabetes management teams. The CDE educates and supports people affected by diabetes to understand and manage the condition. A CDE promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioural and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes. While diabetes educator may come from a variety of health professions, each member of the diabetic team is expected to integrate the role into their professional practice.
An “upskilling certification” course for the professionals with experience in the patient care such as Graduates in Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, Pharmacology, Occupational and Physiotherapy etc.
Educational requirement: Graduation in Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, Pharmacology, Occupational and Physiotherapy etc.
Age limit – Above 22 years. (Relaxation of age for SC/ST candidates as per the Govt of India Rules.)
Affiliation – Government of India recognised.

As per the guidelines of MOHFW, GOI Minimum duration of 181 hrs are recommended of which 77 hrs should be of theory and 104 hrs of practical/ skill based training provided to the candidates

Medium of instruction
English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination of the course.
A candidate has to secure minimum 80% attendance in overall with at least-75% attendance in theoretical and 90% in Skills training (practical) for qualifying to appear for the final examination.
